Internal Medicine — Program Information

Accreditation

As leadership in the KBIM, we are committed to continuing to maintain high standards in all aspects of our training program. In addition to being accredited and in good standing at Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization, we are pursuing accreditation by the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.

We believe that Canadian accreditation is an excellent way to hold ourselves accountable to those high standards and we are fully committed to achieving it.

The process is long and complex with many standards and decision makers to satisfy. This makes it difficult to make predictions regarding when the program will get accredited. However, we are making significant progress towards accreditation and remain committed to it.

We are fully committed to improving the program for every resident, from R1 to R5. We believe that this is the biggest value that accreditation brings, an improvement in the program and recognition of the program as a whole.

Beyond that, at the individual resident level, residents who start the program after accreditation status is achieved may be eligible to apply for and sit the Royal College of Physicians Internal Medicine Exam (in Ottawa, Canada). Upon successful completion of the Royal College exam, they may be eligible to receive the Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCSC) designation. However, this does not apply to residents who were in the program before the program became accredited.
