Accreditation
As leadership in the KBIM, we are committed to continuing to maintain high standards in all aspects of our training program. We believe that Canadian accreditation is an excellent way to hold ourselves accountable to those high standards and we are fully committed to achieving it.
While we're constantly working on improving our programs standards, we believe that we are ready to proceed with the process of accreditation. However, due to a pause in the contract between KIMS and the Royal College, the process was put on hold, but we are hoping that the process will resume soon. In the meantime, we continue to work on improving our program and strengthening our position in accreditation.
It's difficult to predict exactly when will the program get accredited, given that it is a process consisting of multiple steps of evaluation, starting with a review by the local Accreditation Office in KIMS, followed by an official submission of our accreditation documents to the RC accreditation committee, and finally an in-person visit by the RC.
In our effort to receive accreditation we are fully committed to improving the program for every resident, from R1 to R5. We believe that this is the biggest value that accreditation brings, an improvement in the program and recognition of the program as a whole.
Whether a resident will be eligible to take the Canadian Royal College exam after completing the program is a decision that will be made by the Royal College at that time. We expect that residents who start the program after we receive accreditation status will be eligible, but we are not confident that it will apply retroactively to residents already in the program.
