Internal Medicine — Program Information

Leaves and Sick Days

Consistent with KIMS leave policies, residents are allowed 30 days of annual leave every academic year. With that in mind, residents should not miss more than 25% of any rotation, which translates to being able to take 1 week off in a 1 month rotation and 2 weeks off in a 2 month rotation, assuming there were no other missed days of the rotation due to illness or national holidays.

All leaves approved by the program must have matching leaves from the Ministry of Health, taken through a separate process.

Residents who are sick should take care of themselves at home and return to work when they have recovered. Residents have a responsibility to immediately inform their supervisors and colleagues that they are going to miss work so arrangement can be made to cover their patient care responsibilities. Sick days must also be reported by residents using an easy to use online platform (by filling a form).
