Hematology at Adan

This rotation is a consultation and out-patient based rotation in general hematology with exposure to both benign and malignant cases and emergency cases.
There is at least one formal teaching session per week ( which is problem-based covering blood film , interpretation of coagulation parameters , emergency cases , VTE treatment, myeloma , lymphoma , MPNs and other teaching subjects. these teaching sessions are tailored to candidate request or deficiencies).
there is one journal club to be prepared by the candidate ( informal ) during the rotation in a subject very relevant to the internal medicine candidate like ITP. AIHA, VTE
there is teaching around all the cases seen in the rotation
regarding the consultation:
there are 20-30 consult per week. the candidate will fully assess the patient with history, examination and is expected to have plan for further investigation and management and this will be fully reviewed and approved by the consultant or tutor.
regarding the clinics:
the candidate will attend 2-4 clinics per rotation to be exposed to non urgent cases and to have follow up for the cases seen in consultation.
regarding the procedure done during the rotation:
the hematology rotation in Adan Hospital is the only hematology rotation the candidate would have an exposure to the bone marrow biopsy and would have a chance to perform this procedure whenever possible.
the rotation schedule is as following
Sunday : Consultation + bed side teaching
Monday: Consultation or OPD with Dr. Ebrahim al Zayer +bedside teaching
Tuesday:Formal teaching for 1-2 hours with Dr Muna Al Rasheed and Consultation bedside teaching
Wednesday:Consultation + bedside teaching and Journal club with Dr Ebrahim Al Zayer
Thursday :OPD with Dr Muna Al Rasheed + Teaching around the new cases seen
