Welcome to cardiology at Dabbous Cardiac Center (DCC)

DCC rotation for internal medicine residents will be geared towards two different levels.

Tier 1 is towards junior residents of R1, where you will be assigned more stable cardiac encounters in cardiology floor and medical floors in consult service. The aim is to make you familiar with the stable cardiac issues from internal medicine perspectives.

Tier 2 is organized towards residents with more experience and exposure to deal with more critical issues and complexities of cardiac diseases and therefore they will be assigned to CCU rotation for total of 8 weeks, 6 weeks of which is in CCU and 2 weeks rotating through different clinics to get wider exposure to cardiology practice.

The rotstion will offer thrice weekly teaching topics of cardiology related issues in internal medicine. A further reading list will be shared with the residents, and it is the expectation that this list be covered by residents on their own time.

The rotation assessment will be based on subjective and objective means:

1) Objective:

The residents will be evaluated with end of rotation mock exam based on core cardiac material relevant to the material taught, topics to be read at their own time or topics encountered during the rotation

In addition, the presentation delivered during the rotation will be part of the evaluation as per the clinical tutors evaluation.

2) Subjective:

Feedback from the consultants and supervising registrars will take the following into accounts when evaluating the resident performance:

a. Communicator: The need to effectively communicate with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals
b. Collaborator: Working effectively with other healthcare professionals as part of a team is crucial.
c. Leader: The need to lead teams, manage resources, and advocate for improvements in healthcare systems
d. Health Advocate: To advocate for the health of their patients and populations, addressing social determinants of health
e. Scholar: engaging in lifelong learning, staying updated on medical knowledge, and contributing to the advancement of medicine through research and teaching
f. Professional: Demonstrating integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct in all aspects during their rotation
g. Medical Expert (integrating all roles)
