The unit covers inpatient, consultation and outpatient services. Residents are usually scheduled between inpatient and consultation services. Senior residents (R3-R5) can be involved in the outpatient services.
Residents will be exposed to procedures like pulmonary function tests, sleep lab, and interventions such as bronchoscopy in addition to pleural interventions (such as intrapleural TPA injection, ideally, pleural fluid drainage is done by the interventional radiologist).
Each resident is expected to make a presentation on an interesting topic or a clinical case of his/her choice by the end of the rotation.
They are also involved in grand rounds twice weekly, during which interesting and difficult cases are discussed; additionally, they attend the weekly on-site teaching sessions conducted in the hospital. Residents share in the daily morning meeting and the weekly grand round of the medical department.
Residents are included in patients’ care along with teaching activities. Verbal evaluations are usually done on regular basis to ensure that the residents are aware of their weak points and have them improved. End-of-rotation written evaluation is usually completed by the rotation coordinator/supervisor tutor.
