Cardiology Rotation Overview – Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital

The cardiology rotation at Jaber Hospital provides Internal Medicine residents with a robust experience in diagnosing and managing cardiovascular diseases. Under the supervision of experienced cardiologists, residents gain valuable exposure to a variety of cardiac conditions and develop skills for comprehensive patient care.

(1) Clinical Experience:
Residents actively participate in the CCU, where they evaluate and manage patients with conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valvular heart disease. They learn to take detailed histories, perform focused physical examinations, and formulate evidence-based management plans while ordering and interpreting cardiac investigations such as ECGs and echocardiograms.

(2) Inpatient Care:
In the CCU and inpatient cardiology wards, residents manage patients with acute cardiac conditions, including myocardial infarction, Heart failure, and arrhythmias. They participate in daily rounds and work closely with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care.

(3) Procedures:
Residents gain hands-on experience assisting with arterial and central line insertions. They are also trained to perform echocardiograms and ECGs, acquiring practical skills essential for cardiovascular care.

(4) Education:
Residents participate in daily morning rounds, which serve as key learning opportunities for case discussions, clinical reasoning, and management strategies. They are encouraged to engage in interactive discussions and learn from bedside teaching during rounds.

(5) Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
Cardiology care often requires close collaboration with other specialties, such as vascular surgery, intensive care, and internal medicine. Residents gain insight into the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork in managing complex cardiac cases.

(6) Self-Study and Professional Development:
Residents are encouraged to engage in self-directed learning through textbooks, journal articles, and online resources to deepen their understanding of cardiology topics.

Throughout the rotation, residents receive regular feedback and guidance, helping them enhance their clinical skills, critical thinking, and overall confidence in managing cardiovascular diseases. This experience prepares them for advanced responsibilities in patient care.
