Objectives:
This rotation aims to expose the learner to a variety of inpatient/ outpatient case to cover the most important topics in Gastroenterology and hepatology as well as develop an approach to common GI symptoms.
Rotation outline:
- Your rotation is divided into 2 categories:
- Clinic week: You will be attending clinic in M2 with a variety of GI specialists to be exposed to different outpatient GI problems.
- Consult week: You will be joining the GI consult service and see inpatient consultants including GI emergencies.
- In your Consult week the expectation is to see and discuss at least one of the following.
Upper GI bleeding
Lower GI bleeding Pancreatitis / complications
Choledocholithiasis/ cholangitis Elevated liver enzymes Cirrhosis complication
IBD flare PEG tube complication X
Teaching:
- You will have teaching sessions with different tutors on a regular basis. The topics are chosen based on the common GI conditions your expected to know. Topics can be changed based on your interest and your deficiencies. You can also use that time to collect EPAs.
- If you have any specific topics that you would like to learn more about, please inform the rotation coordinator as soon as possible to incorporate this into the schedule.
- The style of teaching will be decided on individual tutors but can include topic discussion, Case simulation, or discussion of an approach on patients you saw in the inpatient or outpatient setting.
- The following topics should be covered during your rotation.

Expectations:
- Make sure you attend orientation on your first day from 8-830.
- GI clinics start at 8am. They are located in the OPD building on M2 floor in the Internal Medicine clinics. Generally, you will use room 20 and 23, unless otherwise stated.
- You are expected to present a topic or a journal club during your rotation of a topic of your choosing. Please discuss it with the GI coordinator.
- If you are unable to attend to your clinical duties for any reason, please inform the rotation coordinator immediately. If you need to take sick leave, do not forget to submit a request on kbim.app, which should also include a copy of the MOH authorized sick leave form.
